LANDOWNERS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR NOXIOUS WEEDS

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

The Dunn County Weed Board will be sponsoring a chemical sale for noxious weeds in late May. These chemicals are for the control of spurge, Canda thistle and wormwood. Each participant will receive a 50% reduction in the cost of the chemical. Chemicals available will be Tordon, Plateau and Milestone.

Tordon and Plateau are used in controling spurge. Milestone is used for the control of wormwood and Canada thistle. You must pre-order your chemical by calling 701-764-5593 (NDSU County Extension Agent) or 701-846-7374 (Dunn County Weed Officer). Deadline for ordering will be approximately May 10, 2008 and distribution will be late in May.

If you have questions about application rates you may call either number for help. We also would be glad to answer weed identification questions.

Persons who are aware of noxious weed infestations are encouraged to contact us so that appropriate action can be taken.

Dunn County also will be involved in bio-control for spurge. Sweeping and distribution will be mid to late June. We encourage landowners to come to the “sweep sites” and gather insects for their property. More information can be obtained from the County Agent or the Dunn County Weed Officer.
