School Photo Display

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

The community began the task of putting photos from the recently closed school into a display in the city hall. The women worked on laying the pictures out, using the new tables purchased by a Horizon grant. The men put the folder display together. It was nice to see how everyone worked to finish this project. If anyone wants to observe the finished project, stop at the auditorium.

LET’S CONTROL WEEDS!

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Dodge has a serious infestation of wormwood and Canada thistle. Both are on the state noxious weed list which means that you are obligated by law to control them. Both are perennial weeds and produce massive amounts of seed.

You may mow these weeds periodically through the growing season, which will prevent seed production. The down side of this treatment is that as perennial plants they will continue to survive and rob valuable nutrients and moisture from your property.

They are easy to control with proper application of chemical. The best choice on the market today is Milestone. Milestone, which should be used with a nonionic surfactant, is a nonrestricted chemical. This means you do not have to carry a certification to purchase or apply this chemical (some chemicals require a certification which can be obtained through the local county agent’s office). Milestone is very enviromentally freindly and is a low rate application chemical.

Treatment should be made early in the summer before plants mature and produce seed. This prevents further infestation and your kill success will be greater. It may also be applied in the fall to control the next years infestation. After two seasons of application you will achieve very good control.

Milestone also works well to control a multitude of “pest” weeds. Careful application should be practiced around trees, shrubs, gardens and flower beds. Because it is a low application chemical you should follow the label instruction carefully to prevent damage to untargeted plants.

For more information on weed control contact your local weed officer or county agent at 701-846-7374 or 701-764-5593. Information, such as pictures to be used for identification purpose may be found on the following web sites:
